Directions to the Reserve
The Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is located on the San Mateo County coast in Moss Beach. The entrance to the Reserve is at the western end of California Avenue off Cabrillo Highway (State Highway 1). Look for the large highway sign "California Avenue," and the smaller sign "Marine Life Refuge," just below it.
Moss Beach is serviced directly by buses from the San Mateo County Transit Service (SamTrans). SamTrans route 294 serves the coastside, including Moss Beach, and can be picked up at the Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo on the Peninsula. The buses run about every hour and a half during the day all week. For schedules and routes check the SamTrans web site or call their information line (800-660-4287). Remember schedules and routes can change, so check the schedules before you travel.
The Hillsdale Shopping Center pick up point for SamTrans Route 294 offers an easy connection with Caltrain, which runs along the Peninsula from San Francisco to San Jose. There is a Hillsdale Caltrain station just across the street from Hillsdale Shopping Center. Caltrain information and schedules are available on the Caltrain web site or by phone (800-660-4287).
From the north SamTrans Route 294 begins in Pacifica at the Linda Mar Park and Ride, where it continues south to Moss Beach. SamTrans route 112 connects Linda Mar Park and Ride to the Colma BART station and can also be picked up in the Serramonte Shopping Center. BART schedules are found on the internet at BART.gov or by phone (650-992-2278; 510-465-2278; 415-989-2278). SamTrans route 112 between the Colma Bart station and Linda Mar Park and Ride runs approximately every hour during the day all week.
