FMR’s Governing Agencies
Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is a San Mateo County Park that is part of a Marine Life Protected Area that lies in California state waters within the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. In other words, a number of federal, state, and local government agencies have overlapping jurisdiction and are involved in caring for the reserve.

The web site of the MPA Collaborative Project showcases the work of the 14 statewide MPA Collaboratives along the California coast. Each Collaborative is a county-based partnership of public agencies and private organizations providing education and outreach guidelines, enforcement protocols, and research and monitoring support for on-the-ground implementation of the Marine Life Protection Act.
